Inspiring Better Visitor Experiences and Better Visitors
It is a place shaped by extraordinary landscapes, mountain communities, outdoor recreation, local culture, and a shared responsibility to care for the environment that makes the region so special.
Visitors come to experience lakes, trails, forests, snow, sunshine, small towns, local businesses, and unforgettable moments in nature.
But the best visitor experiences are not created by scenery alone.
They are shaped by people who help visitors understand where they are, how to explore respectfully, and why stewardship matters.
The Tahoe Truckee Destination Champion Program was created in collaboration with Stewardship Tahoe to help hospitality professionals, residents, local businesses, volunteers, tourism stakeholders, and community advocates build the knowledge and confidence needed to create more authentic, informed, and responsible visitor experiences.
Because great destinations are not only visited.
They are cared for.
A Destination Champion is someone who helps visitors connect with Tahoe Truckee in a more meaningful and responsible way.
Destination Champions help visitors:
Champions may work in hospitality, recreation, retail, restaurants, lodging, transportation, visitor services, nonprofit organizations, or community leadership.
They may also be residents who care deeply about the region and want to help others experience it with greater awareness and respect.
Tahoe Truckee’s natural beauty is one of its greatest strengths.
It is also one of its greatest responsibilities.
Destination stewardship means caring for the places people love while ensuring tourism benefits residents, visitors, businesses, and future generations.
Stewardship helps communities:
Encouraging responsible behavior on trails, waterways, public lands, and outdoor spaces.
Helping tourism align with the needs and values of residents.
Inspiring guests to participate in positive behaviors that support the destination.
Helping local stakeholders understand and share what makes Tahoe Truckee unique.
Ensuring the destination remains healthy, welcoming, and vibrant for years to come.
Education helps turn awareness into action.
Today’s travelers are looking for more than things to do.
They are looking for meaning.
They want to understand the places they visit, connect with local culture, make responsible choices, and feel like their presence contributes positively.
Destination Champions help make that possible by sharing:
When visitors are better informed, they are better prepared to respect the destination and engage with it more thoughtfully.
Better learning creates better experiences.
Better experiences create better visitors.
